:Title: Xenoblade X: JP-EN Translation hints and pitfalls :Part: 04 - Ground Arts :Author: https://mememodoki.jp :License: CC BY 4.0 ============================================================= Xenoblade X: Translation hints and pitfalls: Ground Arts ============================================================= Keep in mind that there are unexplained art effects. In game display, "Art Description", shows Arts trait mostly well, but they lack details such like Art motion length. Sometimes it seems intentionally hide specific trait. Utilize Arts definition helps if you are not sure about JP-EN linkage, but those undescribed trait may bother. Prefer using Art color, TP or non-TP, and corresponding Weapon, target enemy trait (single, nearby-in-circle, or a sector fanning out), to make sure you and the user talking about same art. Rationale ========== JP name [= JP hiragana] = JP romaji // comments = EN name // comments Charactor Signature Arts ========================== Nagi Signature Arts ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 真・旋風刃 = しん・せんぷうじん = Shin Senpuu Jin = True Stream Edge Nagi's Signature Art, which deal more damage and TP gain on Morale Level > 1, to targets nearby, hitting multiple times, and blows small opponents. The Art color is orange (=Melee, by Longsword). non-TP Art. WATCH: the Blow effect is not described in game Art description. That means high TP yield, safer combat even in the middle of opponents, and makes OCG counter management easier. A very game balance breaking art. 刃 is read in multiple ways; "やいば" Yaiba、"は" ha (such as 刃物 Hamono)、 and じん (Jin or Zin, for example 自刃 Ji-jin). * WATCH: Stream Edge (ストリームエッジ) is Dual-Sword Melee art, not Longsword. + It may have strong connection between ストリームエッジ Stream Edge: - both are sword arts; rotating motions and multiple hit traits. - Relationship between Elma and Nagi can be rational reasoning they might teach/learn each other. That is an attempt of Meta Analysis. + In game connection should be considered "less-relationship". - From aspect of Melee Weapon Type difference between Longsword and Dual-Swords. - Something story in depth consideration may bother Arts explanation. - ストリームエッジ Stream Edge is orange color TP art (Potential dependent damage). - 真・旋風刃 True Stream Edge is non-TP Melee art (Melee Attack dependent damage). 桜花乱舞 = おうか らんぶ = Ouka Ranbu // splitting into two is rational. refer below. = Blossom Dance You need to be very careful about this name, 桜花乱舞, because it appears over multiple titles in Xenoblade Chronicles Series. Each one has its own definition. In Xenoblade X, Blossom Dance is Nagi's Signature Art, Melee (Orange color), TP art (its damage depends on Ground Potential), and its target is Single Enemy. It has stance Break effect, and ignores enemy attribute resistances. WATCH: the Break effect is not described in game Art description. "Oukaranbu" is a bit chunky. Prefer "Ouka Ranbu". Here is the anatomy: * 桜花 (Ouka -> 桜 Ou + 花 Ka) resembles to 桜の花 (桜 Sakura + の no + 花 Hana). + Japanese usage: 桜花絢爛 (おうかけんらん)、桜花爛漫 (おうからんまん), 桜花賞 (おうかしょう). + 桜花 has special implication with something beautiful itself. - 桜花: Implicates "Cherry blossoms falling" like 紙吹雪 (かみふぶき; confetti). + 桜の花: Mostly literal objective meaning. A petal/flower of cherry blossom. + Japanese feels beauty with falling cherry blossom. - It may imply something finale due to its "falling petal" seasonal meaning. - In this Nagi Signature Art case, finale for opponent side. * 乱舞 (Ranbu -> 乱 Ran + 舞 Bu) means dancing drastically. + 狂喜乱舞: 狂喜 Kyoki + 乱舞 Ranbu, state of somebody dancing under extream happiness. * Technically you can split into four kanji letters. + However "桜 Ou + 花 Ka + 乱 Ran + 舞 Bu" is like an overhaul.
