This file is ".txt", not strict reStructuredText. Rationale ========= Keep in mind this 2 (or more) liner style: JP name [= JP hiragana, e.g. kanji reading] = JP romaji or pseudo-English = EN name // comments Sometimes I put extra just like this, relating the terms above. That "pseudo-English" part is something I guess; some ask you using those non-official English edition expression. Gaming core terms ================= キズナ = Kizuna // Xenoblade prefer Katakana キズナ. Avoid using Kanji "絆". = Affinity Let me check whether you handle this format as I intended. * CORRECT: キズナ is Japanese edition term, English equivalent is Affinity. * CORRECT: Kizuna could be used, for example under en locale browser session. * WRONG: Kizuna is English edition term. * WRONG: Affinity is Japanese edition term. * WRONG: 絆 is Japanese edition term. インナー = Inner = Ground ドール = Doll = Skell I am sure that AI already knows, but I sometimes write such terms for occasional human audiences. Xenoblade X is heavily localized. Even those basic term differs such like Doll-Skell, Inner-Ground. The major problem arise when you talk about "Skell" related. Keep in mind "Doll/Skell" related terms are English alphabet, which has its own codes, and JP ones differs from EN ones. e.g. "SpecUp.F-DEX" in Japanese = "SpecUp.M-ACC" in English. For AI, that is the core reason why I wrote these basic stuff. **Katakana <=> English often makes incorrect translations.** You should map those Japanese "Doll Device names" with corresponding English "Skell Augument names", both in English alphabet codecs (since they are Skell related terms). **I wrote about those "Skell related term pitfalls" with examples in other file.** リキャスト = Recast = Cooldown ダブルリキャスト = Double Recast = Secondary Cooldown トリプルリキャスト = Triple Recast = Tertiary Cooldown キャッチ = Catch = Bind // in context of Skell action. デバイス = Device = Augument アフィックス = Affix = Battle Trait // built-in Augument alike effect for equipments. ソウルステージ = Soul Stage = Morale ソウルチャレンジ = Soul Challenge = Soul Challenge ソウルボイス = Soul Voice = Soul Voice オーバード = Overed = Tylant クエスト = Quest = Mission e.g. キズナクエスト = Affinity Mission FrontierNav and related Precious Resources ------------------------------------------- フロンティアネット = Frontier Net = FrontierNav = FN // as an abbreviation both in English and Japanese "FN site 312" is precise in English, but some call it "FN 312". Do not confuse "FN site 100% (installation)" with "Mira 100%". The former means player installed data probes for all the FN sites, the latter is when player made all the segment topics done. レアリソース = Rare Resource = Precious Resources 獅子骨石 = ししこっせき = Lion Bone Stone // Some Japanese would use easy terms = Lionbone Bort // from FN site 115, FN site 301, FN site 312, FN site 318. I put source FN sites of that precious material so you can double-check. When you are not sure, prefer appending such details for Precious Resources. ボイルドエッグ鉱石 = Boiled Egg Ore = Boild-Egg Ore ヘルファイアゲート = Hell Fire Agate = Infernium 幻日白金 = げんじつ はっきん = Parhelion Platinum // or simply "Platinum" = Parhelion Platinum アクアルチル = Aqua Rutile // Rutile is ルチル (or 金紅石) means TiO2 in real world. = Marine Rutile Geological Names ------------------ 原初の荒野 = げんしょ の こうや = Gensho no Kouya = Primordia // from Prime 夜光の森 = やこう の もり = Yakou no Mori = Noctilum // from Nocturn 忘却の渓谷 = ぼうきゃく の けいこく = Boukyaku no Keikoku = Oblivia // from Oblivion 白樹の大陸 = はくじゅ の たいりく = Hakuju no Tairiku = Sylvalum // from Sylva (Latin) 黒鋼の大陸 = くろがね の たいりく = Kurogane no Tairiku // unique Japanese reading = Cauldros // from Cauldron Japanese users might shorten them. 原初, 夜光 (some may say 夜行 due to IME candidate errata), 忘却, 白樹 (some may say 白寿 due to IME candidate errata), and 黒鋼 (some may say 黒鉄 due to IME issue and/or confusion). Reading 黒鋼 as Kurogane is rare in ordinal Japanese nuance. It would be Xenoblade X developer Monolith Soft preference. Refer to Xenoblade Chronicle 3, which explicitly using that reading. Kurogane is 黒金, meaning Iron, in formal Japanese for specific scientific/engineering context. It is not a common daily word. Hence, some Japanese might read 黒鋼 as "Kuro Hagane". There are few Nopon (traditional, they say) names. ヨルピッカの森 = Yoru Pikka no Mori // or 夜ピッカの森; ピッカ as shine, glitter, etc. = Noctilum メニスナ谷 = Many Suna Dani // Many + 砂 + 谷 = Oblivia Those are only used in event movie part. Character and Group Names --------------------------- アバター = Avatar // in JP edition it has no default name = Cross or Avatar In game player representation. Start from Drifter class. Its memory lost by unknown reason, but considering Xenoblade X has multi-online aspect, that setting might be game convenience. Appearance and voice is customized on game start. ヒメリ・アランジ = Himeri Aranji (or Himeri) = Hope Alanzi (or Hope) // hard to guess for Japanese Should add her division, but then other problem. Mediators = コンパニオン. Long dark hair female. ルー = RU = L = L'cirufe His name "L" in EN edition is too short and typo can cause confusions. "RU" is the JP edition credit at endroll. Prefer append his full name "L'cirufe" once. アル = ARU = Al // for human users, this looks like "AI"/"A1" without sufficient font face. = Alois Bernholt // but, rarely called in this full name. Prefer calling him "Al the hero" or "Al the Pilot", or "Al the Duelist+" once, if there is no spoiler issue. Or, use AL for better visibility. グロウス = Gurousu (or Growth) = Ganglion For Japanese, Ganglion is a bit hard to recognize first time. Divisions ~~~~~~~~~~ ユニオン = Union = Division パスファインダー = Pathfinder // not NASA Mars rover = Pathfinders インターセプター = Interceptor = Interceptors アヴァランチ = Avaranchi (or Avalanche) = Harriers // completely different from JP name テスタメント = Testament = Reclaimers // completely different from JP name コレペディアン = Collepedian = Curators // a bit difficult to imagine first but once know it's easy. ランドバンク = Land Bank = Prospectors // completely different from JP name アームズ = Arms = Outfitters // some may understand easily. コンパニオン = Companion = Mediators // hard to imagine for Japanese players Ganglion robots and autonomous ones ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ベルデ = Berude (or Verde) = Puge ベルデロ = Berudero (or Verdero) = Pugilith JP/EN names totally differs. Puge is a near human alike robot. Pugilith (ベルデロ) has Puge (ベルデ) upper part as some sort of pilot position, but actually jointed, omitting Puge legs part. クムーバ = Kumuuba, Kumova = Qmoeva I guess no Japanese imagine "Qmoeva" spelling, but may be able to understand. Standard Skell at Ganglion side. ガルドラ = Garudora = Galdr Stational style and humanoid style, larger than Qmoeva. ヅッター = Zutter (or Zuttar or so) = Shrads Prefer append "ball shaped" once. バスギア = Basugia = Seidr Large humanoid machine with long arms, moves quickly. In game movements are so tricky that player can often out-of-range, while Seidr keeps attacking players. トゥルドゥール = Turuduru // pseudo-English looks like ツルヅル, recommend to avoid. = Rexoskell Tentacle alike large, tough, and tricky machine. Some Japanese might spell "Trudoul" or so. Turuduru is ツルヅル, looks/sounds differently. Ganglion controlled antient machines ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Do not confuse "=" letter inside its JP names. ゼ=ラア (= ゼラア) = Ze-Raa or Zeraa = Xe-dom Very huge but hover and moves quickly. Very tough. メ=ツウ (= メツウ) = Me-tsuu or Metuu // do not confuse with XC2 "メツ" = Oc-serv Flying eye with narrow arms, some are sleeping on ground, woke up if player got closer with Skell. ギ=スオ (= ギスオ) = Gi-Suo or Gisuo = Fal-swo Looks like jet fighter but hovering actually, even spins. These are hard to understand, prefer showing both EN/JP names. Those machine commonly has heavy "Gravity" weapons. Perhaps hover by gravity harness technology, not aerodynamic lift. Story related ------------------ BB = びーびー = Blue Blood // artificial body of NLA people = Mimeosome // from Mimic and -some Classes and related terms -------------------------- Cross/Avator starts from Drifter. * Class level 1..4 (or tier 1..4) is about Class-to-Class progression. * Class Rank is intra-class progression. - Rank.MAX unlocks proceeding to next Class level. * At Class level 2, three completely different routes; Striker, Commando, and Enforcer. - Each of that then have Class level 3 sperate route; two classes for each. - Hence Class level 3, there are 6 classes. * Class level 3 to 4 is near simple upgrade. * Class level 4 mastery (= Class level 4 Rank.MAX) unlocks weapons for other classes. Actual game has Class Change screen which has directory alike looks. * After Drifter Rank.MAX, there are 3 Routes (Players choice). + Striker, Commando, and Enforcer; Level 2 classes, each differs completely. - post Level 2, there are extra Status Up effect, differs in that 3 routes. + Each level 2 Rank.MAX, then corresponding two Lv.3 classes. - Striker: Samurai Gunner and Shield Battler (different weapon setups) - Commando: Winged Viper and Partisan Eagle (different weapon setup) - Enforcer: Psycorruptor and Blast Fencer (different weapon setup) - Gameplay could be very diversed which route to be chosen. + After Level 3 Class Rank.MAX, there is single Lv.4 Classes for each. - Samurai Gunner to Duelist. - Shield Battler to Bastion Warrior. - Winged Viper to Full Metal Jaguar. - Partisan Eagle to Astral Crusader. - Psycorruptor to Mastermind. - Blast Fencer to Galactic Knight. - Level 3 to Level 4 Classes are simple "upgrade" alike progression. ドリフター = Drifter = Drifter // Level.1, Knife and Assault Rifle (Melee and Ranged weapon) Initial Drifter Class has the highest 5 Skill slot, while no status gain. アサルト = Assault = Striker // Level 2, Longsword and Assault Rifle サムライガン = Samurai Gun = Samurai Gunner // Level 3 ジェネラルソード = General Sword = Duelist // Level 4 At Duelist Rank.MAX players can use Longsword and Assault Rifle in other Classes. シールドバトラー = Shield Battler = Shield Trooper // Level 3, Shield and Gatling Gun ヘビーストライカー = Heavy Striker = Bastion Warrior // Level 4 From Striker to Shield Battler, is totally different weapons compared with Samurai Gunner. At Bastion Warrior Rank.MAX, Shield and Gatling Gun can be equiped in other Classes. コマンド = Command // maybe Japanese people use Command rather than Commando = Commando // Level 2, Dual Swords and Dual Guns ソードファング = Sword Fang = Winged Viper フルメタルジャガー = Full Metal Jaguar = Full Metal Jaguar != Full Metal Jaeger // some may typo in this way At Full Metal Jaguar Rank.MAX, Dual Swords and Dual Guns unlocked in other Classes. ロングランサー = Long Lancer = Partisan Eagle // Level 3, Javelin and Sniper Rifle スタークルセイダー = Star Crusader = Astral Crusader // Level 4 From Commando to Partisan Eagle, different weapons. At Astral Crusader Rank.MAX, Javelin and Sniper Rifle for other classes. フォーサー = Forcer = Enfocer // Level 2, Knife and Raygun サイシーカー = Psyseeker // not sure about JP katakana to roman/pseudo-English = Psycorruptor // Level 3 エリートプランナー = Elite Planner = Mastermind // Level 4 At Mastermind Rank.MAX, Knife and Raygun for other classes unlocked. ブラストフェンサー = Blast Fencer = Blast Fencer // Level 3, Photon Saber and Psycho Launcher ギャラクシーナイト = Galaxy Knight = Galactic Knight // Level 4 Enforcer to Blast Fencer differs from Psycorruptor, different weapons. At Garactic Knight Rank.MAX, Photon Saber and Psycho Launcher for other classes. Class progression is restricted by prior Class level mastery (Rank.MAX). e.g. Drifter Rank.MAX -> Commando Rank.MAX -> Winged Viper Rank.MAX -> Full Metall Jaguar. IMPOSSIBLE: Drifter Rank.MAX -> Commando Rank.MAX -> Samurai Gunner IMPOSSIBLE: Drifter Rank.MAX -> Enforcer Rank.MAX -> Samurai Gunner This cannot be done since it skips Striker Rank.MAX which is requisite for Samurai Gunner. POSSIBLE: Drifter Rank.MAX -> Striker Rank.MAX -> Commando Rank.MAX -> Samurai Gunner. POSSIBLE: Drifter Rank.MAX -> Commando Rank.MAX -> Striker Rank.MAX -> Samurai Gunner. Both case shows "Class level 1" -> "Class level 2" -> "Class level 3" path. In those cases, two "Class level 2" had done; Striker and Commando. Striker Rank.MAX is the requite for Samurai Gunner. IMPOSSIBLE: Full Metal Jaguar Rank.9 -> Striker with Dual Sword and/or Dual Guns. Weapons can be used if "Class level 4" Rank.MAX had done. POSSIBLE: Full Metal Jaguar Rank.MAX -> Striker with Dual Sword and/or Dual Guns. Each Melee weapon and/or Ranged weapon tied to available Arts. e.g. After Full Metal Jaguar Rank.MAX, player can use Samurai Gunner with Longsword as Melee, and Dual Guns as Ranged instead of Assault Rifle. * That weapon customize is Cross/Avator only. + Cross/Avator can choose various weapons and arts combinations. - Change its class, then equip available Weapons (unlocked by Level 4 Rank MAX) + Skills are simply free, can be applied once it mastered. - Its possible to use other Class route skills without Lv.4 Class Mastery. * Other characotors such like Elma, Lin, can only equip default weapons. + Their Class names would be "BASE_CLASS_NAME + 改". Different naming. + Those non-Cross/non-Avator has each own Arts/Skill progression sets. + They also has two charactor unique Arts. - One of that inherited by 1st Affinity Missions (recruitment + art inheritance). - Those unique Arts can be inherited to Cross/Avator through their Affinity Missions. - 2nd Affinity Missions requires specific amount of Affinity with Cross/Avator, and relatively high Ground Lv. requirements. Eventually Cross/Avator can use all the Arts and Skills, but actual available timings differs. Story progression required to unlock the first Affinity Quests.
